Morning Keynote Speaker: Jennifer LaGarde
Jennifer LaGarde (aka library girl!) is a Librarian Ambassador and Education Road Warrior! As an Educator on Loan for the NC Department of Public Instruction, she travels across the land working with school librarians, classroom teachers, principals, superintendents – literally ANYONE who needs help building or making the most of a 21st century school library.
Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in English Education from the Watson School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) and her graduate degree in Library Science from Appalachian State University. She is also a Nationally Board Certified School Librarian.Jennifer is the Social Media Special Committee Chair for the North Carolina School Library Media Association, was a founding member of NCSLMA’s Young Adult Book Award and shares NCSLMA webmaster duties with another North Carolina librarian.
With over 17 years experience in education as a classroom teacher, teacher librarian and district level leader, Jennifer has been nationally recognized for her contribution to school librarianship and education in general. In 2011, Jennifer was awarded the “I Love My Librarian Award” by the American Library Association, The Carnegie Corporation of New York and The New York Times. She was also named a 2011 “Mover and Shaker” by Library Journal. And in 2013 she was selected as one of five teacher librarians (nationally) finalists for the first ever Bammy Award for outstanding service in the area of school librarianship.
Jennifer is the author of the award winning blog The Adventures of Library Girl where she proves you don’t have to be super hero to be a teacher librarian, but having a cape sure helps.

Author Keynote Speaker: Chris Grabenstein
"From My Cumberland Roots to Mr. Lemoncello's Library."
Chris Grabenstein, a former improvisational comedian and the author of ESCAPE FROM MR. LEMONCELLO'S LIBRARY gives a fun talk about his journey from being a grandson of Cumberland, Maryland to The New York Times Best Seller list and all the fun stops in between. It's all about saying "Yes" to whatever life throws at you. Be prepared to laugh.
Chris Grabenstein is also the co-author (with James Patterson) of the #1 Bestsellers I FUNNY, I EVEN FUNNIER, and TREASURE HUNTERS. Winner of two Anthony and four Agatha Awards, Chris writes fast-paced and fun page-turners for children and adults. He’s also a playwright and screenwriter not to mention a former advertising executive and improvisational comedian. Sometimes he sleeps.

Afternoon Keynote Speaker: Stacey Montgomery
Stacey A. Montgomery, a passionate educator, serving as a Library Media Specialist in the Prince George’s County Public School System, has sought to use media to inspire, motivate, and educate scholars for over 21 years.
For the past three years, as a Technology Integration Specialist, Montgomery has coordinated the implementation of a one-to-one iPad initiative in a Title 1 Middle School with a population of over 900 students in Riverdale, Maryland. In the fall of 2014, Montgomery will be teaching ESOL to fourth and fifth grade students.
Over the past five years, Montgomery has been the CSTEM coordinator for the Team Prince George’s County Maryland’s feeder pattern, where students research environmental topics and apply their learning to six communications, science, technology, engineering and mathematics project-based leaning challenges. Additionally, she is the lead teacher for the Filmmaking/Creative Writing challenge, where students learn to research, collaboratively write using Google Docs and edit video using iMovie. Since the program started five years ago, over 100 students have traveled to Houston, TX to compete in the International CSTEM Challenge.
Also, as an elementary and middle school Library Media Specialist, Montgomery has implemented television production programs, taught students to actively engage in research across the curriculum and designed exciting literacy experiences for students. Recently, Montgomery collaborated with the University of Maryland to implement the HackHealth Program, which focuses on teaching students to effectively research a health topic.
Stacey A. Montgomery’s education includes: Bachelor’s in Mass Media Arts (Hampton University), Master’s in Library Science (University of Maryland at College Park) and Master’s in Bilingual Special Education (George Washington University).
